8 Series
The Luscombe Series consisted of the 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D, 8E, and 8F
One major difference is in the fuel systems. The 8 A, B and C models all were originally equipped with a fuselage tank as standard equipment. This was a 14 gallon tank which was about 2 to 2.5 hours with reserve. There was an approved auxiliary tank used on the aircraft manufactured by Timm. It was a 4.5 gallon tank installed in the wing root bay. As originally designed, they were supposed to drain directly into the main fuselage tank. Some people have rigged up fuel lines to run the auxiliary tank directly to the engine.
There was a pre-war wing tank for the fabric covered wing aircraft that was an option from the factory, but this a very rare installation. There were a few 8As produced in 1946 with the post war version of the wing tanks.
The 8 E & F were designed with two wing tanks with 12.5 gallon capacity.
